Are there any advantages to using swords over axes, or vice versa? I am exploring dual wielding and will be able to get either sword specific or axe specific passive skills in the next 10 level-ups. Is it even worth it to use the passive skill points to specialize for a weapon class? | Posted by on Apr 19, 2013, 7:20:08 AM |
Axes do more damage. I'd recommend that you don't spec into a specific weapon. Doing so makes it harder to find good gear. | Posted by Meczor on Apr 19, 2013, 7:24:56 AM |
' This. If you know you're going to dualwield, stick to nodes that give dual wield damage or 1h damage rather than chosing between swords and axes. Atleast until endgame. | Posted by on Apr 19, 2013, 7:54:20 AM |
' Unless ofc you are speccing in something like life leech, in which case you go for claw damage. Not in OP's case, but still. 'Minions of your minions are your minion's minions, not your minions.' - Mark | Posted by on Apr 19, 2013, 10:59:06 AM |

Swords -> Attack speed. Specially rapiers. Up to 1.7 base aps (attacks per second). Axes -> Moar damage. Up to 1.3/1.35 base aps. Claws aside, weapon passives aren't good. | Posted by Faerindel on Apr 19, 2013, 11:34:05 AM |
' Dysnc.. so axes? :p Just for try for see and for know. She corpse exploded the corpse of the boss.. | Posted by Zanixx on Apr 19, 2013, 1:58:08 PM |
I play with both axes as swords on my dualwielder. No specialisation, so I can wear the best of what I find. | Posted by Tikal on Apr 19, 2013, 2:12:03 PM |
' Same, I am using 1h sword and 1h axe. It is really cool to run gems that use axe or sword with axe and sword. HEY!!! GOT MILK!!! | Posted by newbihack on Apr 19, 2013, 11:36:44 PM |

Diamond Sword Dmg Vs Axe 2
So I decided to run some tests to determine which weapon would perform better between Maces/Swords and Sharp/Precise traits. Tests were done on the VR16 mobs in Orsinium with a VR12 Purple sword. I didn't factor champion points into this equation, but I have 0% bonus crit damage and 0% bonus armor pen from Champ Points.
I'm not entirely sure my math is completely solid here on calculating the way crit dmg/crit % works into contributing to the increased damage from Precise, so please let me know if I'm wrong.
Regardless, here's a spreadsheet comparing values. The % value is derived from dividing the number in the second column by the first column, in order to calculate what % of damage X weapon would do compared to Y weapon. I also compared the damage from both weapon types and trait types with Major Fracture (Ransack) debuff applied.
First chart is flat values, the 2nd two are cross comparisons between weapons with NO adjustment for Precise, and the 3rd chart updates the damage values from Precise to include the approximate benefit they would provide at 50% crit chance and 60% crit damage.
Higher Crit % would obviously diminish the value that Precise has over Sharpened
and vice versa
Higher Crit Damage would increase the value that Precise has over Sharpened.
The one thing I'm unsure on is how the Champion Point bonus Crit modifier factor's into this, I've heard the final value from your damage is multiplied by the crit modifier.

Conclusions:
It appears that with Major Fracture up, Precise Sword with Aedric Spear Passive is better on all but the highest armor class enemies. Without Major Fracture available, Mace damage will pull ahead on medium armored targets like Spriggans, Durzogs, and Bears.
Heavy Armor/Bosses = 100% Sharp Mace
Medium Armor Enemies = Precise Sword IF you have Major Fracture, Sharp Mace if you do not
Low Armor Enemies = Precise Sword regardless

Diamond Sword Dmg Vs Axe Minecraft
A diamond sword has 1562 uses and does a nice 7 damage. A diamond axe has the same number of uses and does 6 damage, the same as an iron sword. A diamond sword has three enchantments I find to be undesirable. Smite, Bane, and knockback. Project 1999 dmg cap removed at lvl 20. A smite sword is my 'go explore the nether' sword. The ideal sword would have sharpness, looting, and flame. Jul 03, 2019 Nowadays diamond axes do more damage than a diamond sword. With sharpness, fire aspect and efficiency enchantments, the axe can be both a strong weapon better than a sword but also serves another purpose. It is to chop trees for wood.
